The KCTA opened at the current Smithville Lake, MO, location after the closure of the old Elliott`s Shooting Park in Raytown in 1986. The roots of the association go back to 1887, when the Elliott family opened their first shooting park in the Kansas City area. On Nov. 27, 1921, Russ Elliott and a handful of local shooters officially organized the KCTA as a shooting association, supported by a board of directors and separate from the ownership and management of the shooting facility.

NRA Instructor Shotgun Shooting Course

Are you looking to get your Instructors Certification? The KCTA will be offering a NRA Instructor Shotgun Shooting Course! This is a great course for anyone who plans to or is already coaching others in Trapshooting!

We have had to reschedule several times due to scheduling conflicts and holidays.  We will get this event scheduled as soon as possible!

Short Description: This 17-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Shotgun Shooting Course.
More Details: Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a perquisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.
Description: Course is presented in two parts: basic instructor training, and discipline specific instructor training. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Shotgun Instructor Candidate Packet, and NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting course student packet.

Even MORE info available at the NRA Course website:
The KCTA is a public shotgun range offering trap, skeet, and five stand sporting clays. We hold seasonal leagues, ATA registered tournaments, corporate events, and fundraisers, as well as regular practice sessions for both new and experienced shooters.
