The Kansas City Trapshooters Association Weekly Club Program

Since 1923, the KCTA club program has offered a year round shooting program promoting both trap and skeet shooting. The competition is equalized; it is varied; you may do any type of shooting you wish. You’ll find shooting by class in 16 yard events, along with handicap events, doubles events and sliding handicap races. A full skeet program is also offered. Competition is equalized by all known methods; classification, yardage, handicaps and added targets. Once you start shooting the club program, your rank is taken care of almost automatically. In trap, there’s a winner and second place in each class, and an open high overall winner awarded EACH WEEK. In skeet, there’s a class winner each week. So, even if you just shoot your “Club” a few times during the year, you have a chance to win something EVERY TIME YOU SHOOT! Naturally, the more you shoot, the more your chances of winning. The annual trophy races begin in January and end in December, and again the more often you compete, the better your chances of winning an annual award.
THE WEEKLY TRAPSHOOTING PROGRAM
The club week begins on the first day of the week the KCTA is open and ends at 5:00 pm Sunday.
SIXTEENS

SHOOTING PROCEDURES
Weekly 50-target 16-yard event by class. You may shoot an optional 3rd round and use the best two rounds combined as your score. In order for your 3rd round to be used, it must be a higher score than one of the first two rounds. However, “A” class shooters are required to shoot all three rounds (this is done to reduce carryovers). You must declare that you are shooting “club” when you sign up. Once you shoot your first round of “club,” the next 16-yard round you shoot that day or week is automatically “club.” You may practice before declaring the 3rd round. Ties will be broken by long runs. If still tied after the greatest long run, all necessary successive long runs will be considered. If tied scores are broken identically, the tie will carryover to the next club week.
ENTRY FEE
$2 (in addition to target fees) for the first two rounds, and another $0.50 for the optional 3rd round (Classes B, C and D).
CLASSIFICATION (A-B-C-D)
You will begin in a class based upon your known ability or ATA average. Two wins promote you to the next higher class, and four consecutive losses demote you one class. Management reserves the right to reclassify as often as necessary.
WEEKLY AWARDS
1st place in each class is awarded 2 rounds of targets.
2nd place is awarded 1 round of targets.
THE ADDED EVENTS
HANDICAP – SLIDING HANDICAP – DOUBLES
In addition to the 16’s, you may shoot the 25-target added event each week. You may shoot the added events twice, and your best score of the two will be used.
ENTRY FEE
$2 for the first round; no additional entry for the second round
HANDICAP
All 25 targets are shot from the same yardage. ATA members will be handicapped at whatever their ATA yardage is at the beginning of the year. New shooters will start at 20 yards, or by ATA rules. The high shooter(s) will win 3 points toward the annual trophy, second place 2 points and third place 1 point. In case of a tie, all shooters will receive points. A first-place win will move you back 1 yard the next time you shoot. The annual champion will be the winner of the most points during the year.
SLIDING HANDICAP
Yardage rules are the same as for the Handicap added event. In this event, you begin the round at your assigned yardage. If you break 5 on any post you “slide” back one yard on the next post. If you break 4, you stay at the same yardage on the next post. Break 3 or fewer and you “slide” up one yard. However, you do not “slide” ahead of the yardage you began the round at regardless of how many you miss. Winning point distribution is the same as the Handicap event (3,2,1). In case of a tie, all shooters will receive points. Each first-place win moves you back one yard the next time you shoot the Slider. The annual trophy goes to the winner of the most points during the year.
DOUBLES
Shooters will be equalized by means of a maximum of 6 added targets based on ability. Each first-place win reduces the number of added targets by 1 the next time you shoot the Doubles added event. Winning point distribution is 3 points for the high score (including added targets), 2 for second, and 1 for third. In case of a tie, all shooters will receive points. The annual trophy goes to the winner of the most points during the year.
TRAP HIGH OVERALL
Each week, 4 rounds of targets will be awarded to the shooter with the highest score on the 16’s and added event combined. Class A shooters will shoot scratch, Class B shooters will receive 1 added target, Class C, 2 targets and Class D, 3 targets. Any shooter breaking 75x75 scratch cannot be tied by another shooter by means of added targets. All ties will divide the rounds.
THE WEEKLY SKEET PROGRAM
The Skeet program consists of 50 targets of 12 gauge and 25 of an added small gauge each week. The weekly 12 gauge will be 50 targets with an entry fee of $2. You may shoot an additional 3rd round and use the best 2 of the 3 as your score. An additional$0.50 will be charged if you shoot the 3rd round. There will be 3 classes. Shooters will be classified based upon known ability. You must declare your “Club” prior to shooting. First place in each class receives 2 rounds of targets. Ties will be broken by long run, then to the small gauge added event score, and finally carried over to the next club week if necessary. The annual champion is the winner of the most first-place weekly wins. Two wins promote a shooter to the next higher class, and four consecutive losses demote a shooter one class. In any of the skeet events, a shooter may shoot any smaller gauge gun.
