TRAPSHOOTING

PRACTICE SHOOTING - Any time the KCTA is open, we offer practice shooting. If it's your first time trapshooting, we will make sure you understand the safety rules and then will go with you to the trapline to help you with the fundamentals of the sport AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. That's right a free lesson. Please don't take offense if we have to remind you about any of the safety rules, we just want to provide a safe target shooting environment for all of us.

ATA REGISTERED TOURNAMENTS - The KCTA is the second largest ATA registered trapshooting facility in Missouri, and throws nearly 400,000 registered targets annually. Hosting at least one registered shoot monthly from March through November, trophy winners take home new rifles and shotguns, gold and silver coins, belt buckles, and shotgun shells. The 1999 Labor Day Weekend Tournament (Sept 4-6) set new records for the KCTA for the size of a single ATA event (173 entries Sept 6 Handicap) and the size of a Registered Shoot (96,500 registered targets). KCTA registered shoots start promptly, and are shot "shotgun" style, with all fields put to use at the start of the event.

LEAGUE COMPETITION - The Heart of America Trap League competes on Wednesday evenings 46 weeks of the year in Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter sessions. A 50 target handicap league, competitions are shot from yardages based upon the cumulative, composite average of the team. This eliminates the need for team divisions, and allows novice shooters the opportunity to compete right along with the seasoned veterans. Teams shoot for points each week, accumulating until the end of the league, when all teams split up the Point Purse. Individual High Gun Awards are offered to the shooters with the top 10 averages during the course of each session of the league.

CORPORATE AND GROUP EVENTS - The KCTA welcomes the opportunity to host corporate outings no matter what size. The beautiful natural surroundings, spacious clubhouse and courteous staff will make any corporate outing a success. Feel free to plan a meeting or meal with your shooting outing. If you decide on a meal, we can offer our catering services, or you can bring in your own. Naturally, we offer discounted pricing to groups. The KCTA is proud to have been chosen as the site for the annual KANSAS CITY CORPORATE CHALLENGE trapshooting championships the last several years, and has hosted corporate outings for numerous firms from throughout the Kansas City area.

KCTA CLUB PROGRAM - An organizied individual shooting program offering annual and weekly awards, the KCTA Club Program has been in place since 1922. Singles, Doubles and Handicap shooting are all incorporated, giving the serious trapshooter an opportunity to hone his shooting skills in all areas of the sport. Weekly trophies are awarded to first and second in each of 4 classes, and high over all. Competition starts up in January and ends in December with the annual shootoffs and awards dinner. Even if you shoot just one week, you will be eligible for the weekly trophies, and may even get in on a year end shootoff!

WINTER FUN SHOOTS - Trapshooting is never out of season at the KCTA. With the end of registered shooting in early November, the winter fun shoots are held every Sunday afternoon until early March. Shooting events are shortened from 100 to 50 targets, and winners take home "Great Steaks" and shotgun shells. There's always a roaring fire in the fireplace, plenty of hot coffee, and a game on the TV for between shooting rounds. These shoots are not registered, but ATA rules apply.

YOUTH SHOOTING - The KCTA offers Junior trophies at all ATA registered events and an annual Junior trophy is offered as a part of the KCTA Club program. In addition the KCTA offers a six week youth shooting clinic each spring in preparation for the the Missouri High School Championships held in late April. Participation in the Championships is not mandatory to take part in the clinic. Target and shell prices are discounted during the clinic to encourage young shooters to take part and learn the fundamentals of the sport. Team KCTA-I won the High School Trapshooting Championships in the Open Entry Division in 1998 and 1999 posting the highest team totals of all teams entered in all divisions both years.
